Cherub Choir
Ages 5 - 3rd Grade
The Cherub Choir is offered to both boys and girls ages 5 through 3rd grade. This choir will learn basic music theory notation on a white board, rhythm instruments, and fun vocal exercises. Quality songs/anthems with christian themes will be learned for performance in December. This concert will be in combination with the Cherub Choir in Escondido which meets in conjunction with Classical Conversations at Bethel Baptist Church. The aim is to foster a love of music, confidence in performing, and a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of music. The fee is $65 per semester. T-shirts will be provided for performance. When the performance date nears, a combined rehearsal or two will be needed. You will receive advance notice of these dates!

Caroler Choir
4th - 7th Grade
The Caroler Choir is offered to both boys and girls 4th grade through 7th grade. (A few advanced 3rd graders may be accepted if this fits family and school schedules.) Each singer will receive a music folder and octavos from which to sing. This music is used to teach proper singing techniques, music theory and part-singing. Some rhythm instruments are used for teaching and performance. Singers learn to clap rhythms and access basic music reading. Quality songs/anthems with christian themes will be learned for performance in December. This performance will be in conjunction with the Caroler Choir in Escondido which meets in conjunction with Classical Conversations at Bethel Baptist Church. The fee is $75 per semester. This covers their music and T-shirt. When the performance date nears, a combined rehearsal or two will be needed. You will receive advance notice of these dates!

Belles Choir
7th Grade - College Girls
This is a very special choir available to girls only, 7th - college ages BY AUDITION. Tuition is $85 per semester. Ambitious choral music is learned, and in the process, music theory, good choral techniques and proper vocal production is taught. Rehearsals are Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30 at my home. We welcome new girls who love to sing and desire to further their music education with other Christian girls! Dresses are purchased through a uniform company and are $75 and belong to each girl. Master's Singers
5th - 9th Boys
This is a choir for boys from 7th grade - high school. Organized in 2022, this choir is off to a great start! No audition necessary - just a desire to sing and learn how to use their ever-changing voices to create great music! They will occasionally sing with the Belles. They meet Tuesdays, 5:40-6:50 at my home following Belles. The semester fee is $85 which includes their music. The one-time uniform fee is $75. Contact Nancy Shirley to join, nancycshirley@gmail.com

Adult Chorus
Adults from college and beyond! This is a choir for you! We rehearse Monday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. at my home in Escondido. There is only a music fee of $35 per semester.
This choir sings for area elder homes during the holidays and spring and also performs on our Winter and Spring Concerts. We have a lot of fun learning music in a relaxed setting. Please come join us! No audition necessary - just a love of and desire to sing! You may join this choir in mid-September or in January for the Spring Semester.

Who We Are
Christian Children’s Chorus is the name of an organization founded by Nancy Shirley for the purpose of training children in music and singing skills by preparing quality music literature for performance twice a year. Performance venues are rented in churches or fine arts centers and professional musicians are hired to accompany each choirs’ songs. Music honoring the Lord and the efforts of these choirs deserve the highest performance standards possible. The two divisions which will be offered on Thursdays within the class schedule at Poway through Christian Family Schools of Poway are as follows:
Meet Nancy Shirley
Nancy Shirley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, and a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
She has taught choral music in elementary, junior high and high schools in Texas, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and high school choral music in California. Nancy has also been Minister of Music in several churches and Navy Chapels, taught piano and voice privately and directed community choirs.
Nancy taught at Madison High School and at Scripps Ranch High School since its opening and retired from this position in June, 2003. Her choirs have won many superior ratings and have performed extensively both locally and nationally. Her choirs have performed in three Heritage Festivals of Gold and have been selected each festival to be featured on the final concerts.
Her Women’s Ensemble from Scripps Ranch High School sang with the City Ballet’s Nutcracker in Spreckles Auditorium for five years. Nancy has conducted two Elementary Honor Choirs and two Middle School Honor Choirs for the San Diego County Schools.
Nancy served two terms on the San Diego County California Music Educators’ Association Board and two terms on the American Choral Directors’ Association California State Board as the Far South Representative.
Nancy was named the Outstanding Choral Director for San Diego Unified Schools in 2000, receiving the MacKenzie-Haney Award. She served as a BTSA Support Provider for new teachers for three years. Nancy was the Assistant Director and Interim Director of the San Diego Children’s Choirs, 2003-2004 and taught choir at Twin Peaks Middle School in Poway.
In 2008 Nancy directed the Partnership Middle School honor Choir for City Schools.
Nancy received the Retired Music Educator Award for San Diego County Music Teachers in 2008. Nancy directed the youth choir (Coro Vivo) for Escondido Choral Arts at the California Center for the Arts for three years.
In 2015 Nancy founded the Christian Children’s Chorus in Escondido and directs four children’s choirs, a girls’ youth choir called Belles, and an adult choir in this organization. In 2017 Nancy directed combined youth choirs with the area Choristers Guild and has served for many years as an adjudicator for choral festivals through SCVA.
Nancy and her husband, Jerry, and son Jonathan reside in Escondido.
